Vampires Live Slave Guide

Slaves Overview
Slaves provide the basis of your Blood Flow Income in Vampires Live. While it is possible to earn blood through fighting and missions, building a large income stream through slaves is critical as you advance in the game. This income stream also allows you to pay for the upkeep on the abilities that you acquire for your clan. Additional slave types are unlocked as you increase in level.

The Income provided by slaves is earned every 50 (Overlord) or 60 (Daywalker, Berserker) minutes depending on your character type. Upkeep costs are automatically deducted at the same time.

Return on Investment (ROI)
The key to maximizing your income from Slaves is understanding the concept of ROI. If you view slaves as an investment of your blood, then the ROI on that investment is equal to the income provided by that slave divided by its current cost. This number is commonly expressed as a percentage and indicates the rate of return for that particular slave. When choosing which slave to buy, you should always choose the one that provides the highest available ROI in order to maximize your investment and income.

For example, at Level 1, three slave types are available (Stray Dog, Wolf, Human) with an initial ROI of 2.5%, 2.5% and 2.67% respectively. Because the Human provides the highest initial ROI, that should be your first purchase. However, once 1 Human is purchased, its cost increases and its ROI drops to 2.42%. This means that your next purchase should either be a Stray Dog or Wolf because they provide the highest available ROI.

As the cost of each slave type increases by 10% with each purchase, the ROI of that particular slave will decrease with each purchase. This provides incentive to advance in level in order to unlock additional slaves that provide a higher ROI.

Slave Analysis
As you can see from the list below, the initial ROI of slaves unlocked at the higher levels is lower than those found at the earlier levels. This is by design as it is expected that as you unlock additional slaves, you will have already established a rapidly growing income stream that makes it easier to afford the more expensive slaves. Also, as the ROI of your slaves lowers with each additional purchase, it will eventually reach a point where the ROI of the higher level slaves is higher than those of your current slaves.

For example, if you are currently Level 10 and have 8 Stray Dogs, 8 Wolves, 9 Humans, 8 Police, 4 Hunters and 0 Cultists then buying a Cultist provides the highest ROI and is your optimal purchase despite the higher cost.

Strategic Recommendations
Your Character's Level, Ability Costs and Income are all closely tied together. In general, the introduction of new slaves correlates to an increase in the cost of Abilities. As these abilities have increasingly higher Upkeep requirements, they require a higher income stream to support them. If you can not afford these new abilities due to lack of income, it is likely that you will lose more fights. At the minimum, it is recommended that you do not level to the point where the next higher slave is unlocked until the ROI on all your currently available slaves drops below the initial ROI of the new slave.

For example, if you are currently level 24, then I would not recommend advancing to Level 25 (when the Demon becomes available) until the ROI of all your currently available slaves is below 0.8%.

Camping
Of course this depends upon each player's strategy and some player's take this to the extreme by "camping" at certain levels and continuing to build their income stream despite the rapidly declining ROI %. The objective is to build as large an income stream as possible so upon leveling, the player is able to immediately acquire any newly unlocked abilities and slaves.

To effectively utilize this strategy, it is important to drastically slow down your leveling by not attacking other players or completing missions. Also, you should focus all of your ability purchases on low upkeep and high defense abilities.

Banking
Because the game limits your losses regardless of how much unbanked blood you have, it can make sense as your income stream increases to stop banking. This is due to the 10% loss every time blood is deposited into the blood bank. If your total losses per hour average less than 10% of your income stream, then it makes more financial sense to keep your money out of the bank.

The Vampires Live Spreadsheet contains all the information on slaves and calculates ROI automatically for you along with purchase recommendations.
